Hopes high for Twizel scheme
An upsurge of interest by people wishing to buy houses in Twizel has convinced the Australian, Mr Howard Hall, that his plans to buy .the hydro town could succeed. Earlier .this /week Mr Hall ratsd his chances at 100-to-r- when he had received only 90 replies from those interested in buying Twizel properties. By last evening 240 people had shown interest.
• Mr Hall hoped to get 300 replies from Twizel, another 300 from throughout the South Island, arid, some North Island and overseas offers. He put 500
replies as the “break-even” point. As well as selling houses, Mr Hall wants to attract cottage industries to Twizel. .. . MrD. H. Warper, of St Albans . Real*. Estate Ltd, who is acting ai’agent for Mr Hall, said that interest had been shown by people wanting to set up new industries in Twizel. Mr Hall had made an offer to the Tourist Hotel
Corporation to buy the Twizel Hotel. This offer was conditional on his buying the town, Mr Warner said.
