Moonshiner to make amends tomorrow night

By W. R. CARSTON The combined efforts of Moonshiner and Lincmac will strengthen the possibility of a quinella for Southland stables in the Angus Forum Stakes, first leg of the N.Z. Metropolitan Trotting' Club’s T.A.B. double at Addington Raceway tomorrow 7 evening.

The last time these two met, in the New Zealand Drivers’ Association Handicap at Addington last Wednesday week, Lincmac finished brilliantly for a stylish victory and Moonshiner, after losing much valuable ground at the start, arrived late on the scene for seventh. That race, one of the events in the drivers’ championship series, was a handicap event. Tomorrow night’s contest is run under free-for-all conditions from behind the mobile barrier and that should ensure that

Moonshiner gets under way on terms with the others. Last week Moonshiner was driven by the northern reinsman, Paddy _ Timmins, and Mike de Filippi was behind Lincmac. Both will have a change of driver tomorrow night. The successful Ashburton reinsman. Bob Cameron, will handle Moonshiner and Lincmac will be driven by Felix Newfield, who will be standing in for the horse’s regular driver, Henry Skinner. Skinner has several members of his team engaged at . the Winton meeting.

Daylight Express and

Smoothover would have both have been scratched. Now the hardest for Moonshiner and Lincmac to beat are sure to be Canterburytrained. And if recent form proves the best guide, Royal Decision, D’Or Favori, Columnist and Quiet Win could be this province’s best. Patrons are likely to have wide range of fancies in the Puketutu Stud Stakes, second leg of the double. This race is notable for the number of acceptors with strong form close up on their records but if Cyllarus comes up with one of his peak runs victory could well go his way.

Since the spring, when he won three of his first four races, Cyllarus has gone through a pretty lean patch but there was promise of another victory close at hand when he flashed home to dead-heat for third in last Saturday’s Cheviot Cup. But Cyllarus is unlikely to be the popular fancy. With Le Rae, Castle Hanover, Lord Brandon and Zabadak all trying to keep last-start winning records intact and several others with strong form credentials close upon their records it will be difficult indeed to predict which might be the outright favourite.
