Concern expressed about El Salvador
PA Wellington A deputation of Labour Party members of Parliament, headed by the Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr D. R. Lange) yesterday called on the American Embassy to express concern about developments in El Salvador. Later at a press conference, Mr Lange said the deputation was concerned about what seemed to be an increasing emphasis on military involvement in El Salvador' and general developments in the country. “We are interested in seeing a development of prosperity world-wide which
will relieve the root causes of what we see happened in Vietnam and what we see happening in Central America.” said Mr Lange. The deputation had had a “willing dialogue” with the Ambassador, Mrs Anne Martindell, who would report its views.
Labour would make its views known to the Soviet Embassy in relation to developments in Poland. ‘‘lf we see any sign of a superpower endeavouring, through the use of military might, to inflict its will on a captive country you will see more than an expression of opinion, you will see a sense of outrage expressed,” Mr Lange said.
