Ashley prevails
Ashley interrupted the domination of North Island teams when it beat Wairarapa, 4-1, in, an exciting and free-flowing match during the second day of the Savile Cup polo tournament at Blenheim yesterday. That success was followed bv another, when Amuri A beat another northern side, Wanstead, 6-4, after the scores had been tied at 4-4 at the end of the fifth chukka. However, the over-all hon-
ours were shared. Hawke’s Bay was too strong for Taieri, 7-0, and, in spite of a three goal scoring spree, Ashburton eventually had to bow to Rangitikei, 8-5. The cup tournament, the first to be held in the South Island since 1937, will resume with the handicap section today. The draw is Geraldine v. Blenheim A. Amuri A v. Taieri, Amuri B v. Blenheim B. and Wairarapa v. Ashburton. The cup semi-finals will be held tomorrow.
