Sumner, Belfast in good positions

Sumner and Belfast both held the advantage over their opponents in Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association senior matches played on Saturday. John Higginson scored 102 in helping Sumner to 199 for seven, enabling it to declare against Harewood. Alan Hounsell. the former Canterbury bowler, played an important role in dismissing Harewood for 82 in its first innings. In its second innings Harewood had lost three wickets in reaching 57. Belfast dismissed Merivale-Pa-panui for 92, and was able to declare its first innings 57 ahead of Merivale, which was struggling again in its second innings at 17 for two. In the other two senior matches Upper Riccarton had an advantage over Woolston W.M.C., but the Hoon Hay-Southern Dis-
