Denis Lili in major role
From Ken Coates in London The New Zealand actor, Denis Lili, has a major role in an adaptation for television of Henrik. Ibsen’s classic play, “Hedda Gabler,” to be shown on ITV. He play’s Hedda’s husband, George Tesman, in Ibsen’s classic story of ' love, jealousy and tragedy. Diana Rigg plays the demanding role of Hedda in the production, adapted by one of the most distinguished modem playwrights, John Osborne. The producer, Pat Sandys, describes Diana Rigg’s act-
ing as “the most incredible I have ever seen on television.” This is high tribute indeed, bearing in mind that’ the definitive perf mance of Hedda Gabler is widely held; to have been given on British television by Ingrid Bergman 19 years ago. The list of great actresses who have played the demanding role on stage includes Dame Peggy Ashcroft, Magigie Smith and Janet Suzman. The TV version featuring Diana Rigg is a Yorkshire Television production.
