Hyperno wins
NZPA Melbourne The seven year-old gelding, Hyperno. made it an all New Zealand finish in the 525,000 Blarney Quality Stakes over 1600 m at Flemington on Saturday. The Rangong gelding, which has now amassed $587,995 in stake earnings, beat the 2-to-l favourite, My Brown Jug, by half a head. Third, after, setting the pace and turning in a great run, was the New Zealandbred Prince Ruling (RulingRosehill), which is partowned by an Aucklander, Mr Bob Ross. Hyperno is now firm favourite for the $lOl,OOO Australian Cup (2000 m to be nun at Flemington next week-end. My Brown Jug, which his trainer, Tommy Smith, says is “getting fitter all the time” and has been trained to be at his top for the Australian Cup, is currently second favourite at 4-to-l, with Lawman, fourthe in the Blarney on Saturday, third favourite at 6-to-l. In other Flemington races on Saturday ' the New Zealand bred Sobig gelding So Easy won the $20,00U Queen’s Gap (2500 m The favourite, the former New Zealand mare, La Zap, had to be content with third place behind Lady Sachanne.
