Australian maths contest
Entries for the fifth Australian mathematics competition, the biggest in the ■world on a population basis, will close in Canberra on March 31. Last year there were 160,000 entries from pupils in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. The papers contain 30 graded questions with multiple-choice answers. To discourage guess work, a wrong answer is penalised. All answers are marked through a computer at the Canberra College of Advanced Education. The competition is sponsored by the Canberra College of Advanced Education, the Canberra Mathematical Association, and the Bank of New South Wales. Details have been sent to all secon-, dary schools.
