Two prison officers honoured
PA Wellington Two prison officers have been presented with the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct by the Minister of Justice (Mr McLay). They are Second Officer J. Kirton, and Senior Prison Officer H. Anderson. Mr McLay said that the actions of the two officers during a disturbance at Wi Tako Prison on January 21, 1980, prevented a full-scale riot. “Such was their dedication to duty that they were willing to expose themselvn in personal danger- so that' an expolisive situation c uld be defused, before there was real damage to buildings or serious injury to any person,” Mr McLay said.
