PA Wellington The Wellington men’s tennis team got off to a fine start in its defeoice of the Wilding Shield on the first day of the national districts teams champlonshipa at Mitchell Park yesterday. In the opening round Wellington beat Southern- Districts, 4-2, and followed up with a victory over Northern Districts by the same margin. Auckland showed it will be a strong challenger by beating Central Districts, 64), without dropping a set, in the first' round and leads Canterbury, 4-1, in its second-round match which will be completed this morning.'. Northern suffered early-in the day by having.to default .matches with players unable to reach the courts because of transport problems. In th« Nutmeley Casket the Canterbury women’s team, the holder, started well with a 6-0 victory over Central Districts
and leads. Wellington, 4-1, m a second-round match which is unfinished.
