Elderly woman dies in fall from cliff
An elderly woman fell more than-100 metres to her death from the cliffs at Sumner Head early yesterday afternoon. The body was recovered by the police last evening after it had been washed up on the beach at Scarborough. The woman, who lived in Christchurch, was believed i to be aged 82. The police had not released her name last < evening. . , . 1
A police spokesman said the woman had chatted to residents living on Scarborough Hill before she went missing, and had not seemed to be in a depressed state. At one stage the police considered calling out the face-rescue team to recover the body from the sea and bring it back up the cliff. There were no suspicious circumstances, a spokesman said.
