Finalists for book award
The six finalists for the . .1980 S5OOO A. W. Reed (Memorial Book Award for .non-fiction have been announced. They are: “The Smith Women: 100 New Zealand Women Talk About Their’ Lives,” by Rosemary Barrington and Alison Gray: “The Outdoor World of Gra-. . ham Dingle.” by Graham Dingle; “Rare and Endanigered Plants of New Zealand,” by David R. Given: “The Perano Whalers of Cook Strait.” by Don Grady:: I "Slipper Orchids: The Art of' ! Digby Graham.” by Robin Graham: and "New Zealand’s Industrial Heritage." by I Geoffrey Thornton. The finalists have been chosen from manuscripts received by the publisher, A.i H. and A. W. Reed. Ltd. between November 20. 1979,1 and December 31. 1980. The manuscripts were judged bv Reed’s and Mrs Elizabeth' Aliev, a member of the New Zealand Literary' Fund Advisory Committee! and producer of Radio New 1 Zealand’s "Writing” pro-. I gramme. 1
The winner will be an nounced on March 23.
