Labour to lift limit
PA Auckland The three-month travel restriction on National Superannuation payments, would be lifted by a Labour Government, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling) promised yesterday. ’He said the. restriction! was "irksome, arbitrary, and. harsh.” All it did, he told the Auckland Senior Citizens Cheer Club, was to penaiisf pensioners who had saved for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
"Given the present strain on overseas funds, there must be. concern about the huge increase in-people now taking once-a-year overseas holidays,” Mr Row.ling said; “But that ‘ certainly does not apply to the genuine rare event overseas holiday.” Mr Rowling said he was continually meeting pensioners who had either lost their superannuation or had to cut short their travel plans because of the restriction..
