Heavy rain damages Haast bridge
Heavy rain has washed out part of State highway 6 at the Gates of . Haast Bridge. A spokesman for the Automobile Association (Canterbury) said it was hoped the road would be reopened by this afternoon. A bridge 3.5 km east of Otira on State highway 73 will be closed today between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. while the road is repaired. ‘The Automobile Association spokesman said it had been .raining very heavily in the area.
