Bookmakers fined
Two men who admitted separate charges of bookmaking were convicted and fined when they appeared before Judge Frampton in the District Court at Christchurch yesterday. Ken Fasi, a painter, and paperhanger, aged 41, was fined $5OO and costs for carrying on a business as a bookmaker in the Gladstone Hotel between November 1 and 29 last year. Kevin John Leigh, a freez-ing-worker, aged 29, was convicted and fined $2OO plus costs for acting as a bookmaker in the Foresters Tavern between October 4 and 11.
