Proceedings stayed
The Solicitor General (Mr D. P. Neazor) has issued an 1 order staying proceedings ( against Graham Ronald Bryan, aged 23, a machine 1 operator, on a charge of un- | lawful possession of a “pis- I tol” — a sawn-off shotgun, 1 on July 13, .979. I Bryan was tried on the ’ charge in the High Court in < November last year but the < jury failed to reach a ver- t
diet. Mr Justice Somers ordered a new- trial. : Mr D. C. Fitzgibbon appeared for Bryan. Evidence was given ' that the gun was seized by the : police during a raid bn the ’ headquarters of the Epitaph Riders motor-cycle gang in : Lincoln Road. While the gun ■ was being held in- police custody for an exhibit in the case it was reduced acciden- ' tally by four centimetres. I
The gun was handed t. the dog squad for training purposes in the mistaken belief it was due for destruction. Because it would not fit in a locker a piece was sawn off the stock. The shotgun had been found by the police under a wardrobe in Bryan’s bedroom at the gang’s headquarters. Bryan denied all knowledge of the gun.
