Locarno fifth
NZPA Melbourne The Kilmore pacer, Kotare Knight, faced himself into inter dominion calculations with a game win against top class company in the $lO,OOO Lady Brooks Cup at Moonee Valley on Saturday evening. Kotare Knight, undoubtedly a most improved horse this season, held off a late challenge from the outstanding four-year-old, Romantic Chris, to score a convincing win. Kotare Knight, inspite of his consistent form, was easy in the market, drifting from 5-2
i to his starting price of 13-4. A clever drive by Vin : Knight, son of .the trainer, > Bob, saw Kotare Knight ; score by a neck from Ro- , mantic Chris, 6-1, with four metres to the fast-finishing ■ Rhett, 20-1, third. The New Zealand pacer, Locarno,. was heavily backed from 5-2 to ; the 2-1 favourite, but was ‘ slightly disappointing after ■ driver Jack Carmichael “lobbed” him in the “one out, one back,” position. Locarno, the 1980 Miracle Mile winner, failed to show his customary dash and could only finish fifth.
