Saunter impresses at Woodville
Special correspondent Palmerston North Saunter took time honours at Woodville yesterday when she ran her semi-final trial for the Champion Handicap at the local meeting on. Saturday. Fast work took place on the plough. It was in good order though not so fast as usual. The course proper is fast and should remain so unless there is plenty of rain. Saunter galloped 1000 m in Imin 3.3 sec, the last 600 m in 37.65ec, She ran a useful race for fourth in her middle-distance debut at Tauherenikay. Back to 1600 m she should make an impact on Saturday. The sprint candidate, Standoff, was let off with an easy 600 m in 40sec. He covered extra ground in his middle-distance debut in the Wairoa Cup and his sixth was creditable. Kaitoa ran 1200 m in Imin 18.5 sec, the last 1000 m in lmin'4.7sec, and the final 600 m in 38.1s£c. He is coming to hand well.
Suttva ran the last 600 m of her work in 40sec and Ballymoyle and Le Crest ran 1000 m in Imin 4.9 sec, the last 600 m in 39.1 sec. Trochee ran 1400 m in Imin 36.35ec. He was joined by Cashel for the last 1200 m in Imin 21.8 sec, and they ran the final 600 m in 39.8 sec. Trochee will be running on in the Bolton Handicap, while Cashel needs six scratchings to get a start in the Autumn Maiden. Filando and Rum Deal were sent 1000 m in Imin 4.9 sec, the -last 600 m in 39.35ec. Carpe Diem and Sousa took Imin 4.5 sec for 1000 m,
the final 600 m in 38.8 sec. Carpe Diem will be a big chance in the Autumn Maiden. Glenmana ran 1000 m comfortably in Imin B.7sec, the last 600 m in 41.5 sec. He takes a jump in class in the Bolton Handicap, but is very well at present and should show up. No Calling and Bidston Hill ran 1000 m in Imin s.3sec, the last 600 m in 39.75ec. Bidston Hill resumes in the Champion Handicap, Riini, a highweight prospect, ran 1200 m in Imin 17.8 sec, the last 1000 m in Imin 4.4 sec, and the final 600 m in 38.8 sec.
