Lap times separate dead-heat drivers
PA Invercargill Two drivers were credited with the same time in the first Shellsport 2-litre saloon championship race at the national motor-racing meeting at Teretonga Park, Invergargill on Sunday. Timaru’s Kevin Ryan, driving a Datsun 160 J, and Roy Cook, of Manurewa, in a Datsun Sunny, crossed the line together, but Ryan w-as declared the winner as he had recorded the fastest lap. The Osca saloons, as always, proved to be the feature of the day with close racing. Sitting on pole position was lan Tulloch, of Mataura, in his Chev Capri, with a. practice time of 1:03.8, exceeding his lap record of 1:06.6 set last year. He won the race from Christchurch’s Trevor Crowe : (Starlet V 8) by five car lengths. In that race John Osborne, of Christchurch, failed to take the first bend at the top of the loop, and spun his powerful Chev Camaro off the track and on to a bank some distance away. The car was extensively dam-
