Reactor cattle scheme
PA Wellington A revised compensation ■ scheme for owners of cattle reacting to brucellosis or tuberculosis testing will become effective on January 1. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr’ Maclntyre) said the new scheme was the result of changes in the method of disposal of reactor cattle now required by E.E.C. veterinary authorities. Ministry of Agriculture officers will now value reactors as commercial grade cattle, on the farm, in conjunction with the owner. At the same time, the avenues open to the t Ministry for disposal of reactors will-be discussed with the owner. Compensation would be 95 per cent of the agreed valuation and should be paid within two- or three weeks of . the reactor’s disposal. To qualify for full payment, fanners must comply with the Ministry’s directions in carrying out the testing scheme, Mr Maclntyre said.
