NZPA Melbourne Mark Edmondson, unseeded as he was in 1976 when he lefeated John Newcombe, yesterday sent third-seeded Argentinian, JoseLuis Clerc hurtling out of the $350,000- Marlboro Australian open ’at Kooyong. * Edmondson strolled through to the third round with a straight sets .victory over Clerc, considered' by many to be the successor to Guillermo Vilas. Tbe Australian won 6-2 6-3 6-4. The match was interrupted by thunderstorms when Edmondson was leading by two sets, and the postponement lasted almost two hours. ... . Clerc became the ■ second player in two days to face the $5OO fine for refusing.to attend a press conference following his loss to Edmondson. On Saturday Vitas Gerulaltis was fined, $5OO after his loss to Sydney's Brad Drewett after he refused to talk to the press.
