Carter hurt in ski fall

NZPA-Reuter Washington President -Carter has roken his left collarbone in a ski-ing mishap but a White House spokesman says that the injury will not interfere with his duties. Mr Carter had suffered the fracture when he had fallen after a ski had caught on a rock-while he had been ski-ing down a nature trail near his Camp David mountain retreat in Maryland, said the White House spokesman. Mr Carter had been flown by helicopter to the Bethesda Naval Medical Institute near Washington where his left arm had been put in a sling and harness which would be needed for six to eight weeks. Mr Carter had returned to Camp David. The injury had caused Mr Carter considerable pain and he would take pain-killing drugs for two or three days. It is the second time that Mr Carter has broken his left collarbone, the first being when he was a young midshipman practising judo at the United States Naval' Academy.
