Cricketer caught unawares
NZPA Sydney Thousands of Brisbano radio listeners heard tho Australian cricket vicecaptain, Kim Hughes, drop a four-letter word on a top-rated talk-back programme yesterday. Hughes was awakened at his hotel by Wayne Roberts who works for the Brisbane Station 4BK. He asked Hughes about today’s test against New Zealand. Hughes said: “Who tha ... is this?” Within minutes, hundreds of Callers telephoned 4BK to complain. The Australian team manager, John Edwards, said Hughes had had no idea who the caller was. “Interviews with players are usually made by radio stations well In advance,” he said. “Nobody can blame Kira.”
Immediately after the incident, Roberts’s programme was taken off the air and the station management was to talk to him. ,
