Police to have open day
A mock cliff-face rescue from the Bank of New Zealand building will be one of the highlights of a Christchurch police open day in Cathedral Square tomorrow.
The crime prevention officer, Sergeant T. Blumberg, said yesterday that an open day, held last year at the Central Police Station, had proved .so popular that it was decided to bring the displays to the heart of the community this time. The B.N.Z. exercise will involve members of the special rescue squad. Police dogs will go through obedience and other tests every half-hour, and the Police Band will play,Static displays are planned by various sections of the police including youth aid, recruiting, crime prevention and armed offenders. Constable B. Thomson, who will soon take charge of the national police museum in Wellington, will show police period pieces at the open day.
