‘Positive’ air transport bill
A private member’s bill, “stacked with positive answers” to air transport problems, will be presented to Parliament this week, according to Labour’s transport spokesman, Mr N. J. Kirk.
Mr Kirk said that it would be a breach of privilege to disclose details of the bill, which would probably be presented today. He also said he objected strongly to attacks by Government members on his criticisms of Air New Zealand. The member of Waitaki, Mr J. H. Elworthy was reported on Monday as calling Mr Kirk “Air New Zea ; land’s public enemy No 1. with an obsession about tne a’ l-I ' ll6 ' • ■ “I think it is wrong that the person who draws atte n" tion to the mistakes should be blamed for the mistakes, Mr Kirk said. _ Labour’s transport policy, which would be released early next year, would include a change in emphasis on air transport. It would seek to encourage inward tourist growth rather than the present' outward tourist trend, and seek to make Air New Zealand accountable to the public, its shareholders.
