Rotorua delays its big party
PA Rotorua Rotorua was entitled to have its biggest party yesterday — its one-hundredth birthday — but progess has brought its responsibilities, and the party has been postponed until Saturday. The recently retired Gov-ernor-General, Sir Keith Holyoake, gave formal approval for yesterday to be a public holiday in Rotorua, and plans were set in motion to mark the centenary in grand style.
However, it was then realised that yesterday was examination time for the hundreds of Rotorua school pupils, so the events of yesterday took precedence over the memory of events of the 1880 s. - ’ ' ’
