U.S. interest rates rise
Most United States major banks have raised their prime lending rates to 17 per cent from 16.25 per cent, raising the cost of business borrowing for the second time in a week. Except for Citibank of New York the 10 biggest United States banks and most other,major banks nationwide posted a 17 per cent base rate for corporate lending. Second-ranked Citibank raised its prime by half a percentage point to 16.75 per cent.
