Another big race win for Piggott

Argument, ridden by the English jockey, Lester Piggott, won the 29th Washington D.C. International at Laurel on Saturday. Piggott guided the three-year-old colt through a wall of horses for a recordr e c o r d-equalling third triumph in the mile and a half event. He also survived an objection by Jorge Velasquez on the second-placed The Very One (United States).
The American horses, Yvonand and It’s True, finished third and fourth respectively. The victory, the fourth in the International for the French-based Egyptian trainer, Maurice Zilber, was worth $150,000 to Argument’s new owners, an art dealer, Mr Bruce McNall, and recording executive, Mr Berry Gordy. The pair bought the colt only two weeks ago • for a reported SI.SM.
