Catholics and marriage annulment
Sir, — The Catholic Church claims to be a leader in moral standards. However, it would seem to be a follower and alter its jaws after the social .revolutions have happened. The church used to forbid birth control, even the lengthy use of the natural method. Now it promotes responsible parenthood — family planning. No family, they say now, •should have more children than it can afford and educate. Father Cahill in the article on annulment now wonders whether the Church will have to change its attitude to divorce — not for any moral reason but because of the great increase in annulment petitions. Should not. the Church direct more of its energy into the teaching of .positive Christianity, let the scholarly arguments alone and leave moral issues to the intelligence and conscience of individuals. — Yours, etc.,
