Police catch youths
The police were “deluged” with telephone calls from Citizens’ Band operators and members of the public after a smash-and-grab raid on an electrical shop just before midnight last night. The raid is one of several to have taken place in Christchurch in the last two weeks.
The burglars broke the window of Richmond Electrical and Radio Service, Ltd, 327 Stanmore Road, at 11.15 p.m. and made off by
car with electrical equipment. As a result of the quick information, the police were able to apprehend a carload of at least four youths in the inner city. The police have recovered the stolen equipment, including three colour television sets. At midnight last night they said the youths were helping them with their inquiries, and that they were seeking others who might have been involved.
