Mr Close nominated for Fendalton

A . sitting Christchurch City councillor is among early) nominations received, by the Labour Party for its candidate to contest the Fendalton electorate at the 1981 General Election. Mr D. C. Close, who was returned recently to his second term, on the" City ■ Council, has been nominated for the candidacv. He contested the 1978 General Election for Labour in Fendalton, reducing the majority of the sitting National member, Mr E. S. F. Holland, from 4313 votes to 1956. At least four strong nominations are expected for the seat, which regards as a marginal electorate. Mi's J. M. HayWard to contest Rangiora. The National Party has already announced its nominations for Fendalton, and a candidate will be selected on October 30. Another Christchurch City councillor, Dr Morgan Fahey, is among four nominees, who include Messrs P. R. Burdon, S. H. N. Stamers Smith, and R. M. Tanner.
