U.S. election
Sir, — So Carter and Reagan are “born - again Christians”? Are their churches and shrines of the same structure as those God intended? I doubt it. These two monumental figureheads (oops, I nearly said warheads) are hardly Christian in ambition or practice; I solemnly urge all New Zealanders with any semblance of conscience to oppose, vehemently, all visits from “born - again Christian” subs and warships, etc; before it is too late: we will be used as a battleground if not successful in maintaining a nuclear - free Pacafic; the irony of all this is that irony of all this is that they are already building churches “underground” in the United States to serve as shelters cum shrines. God must either be a sick comedian or a belated intervener. — Yours, etc., ANDY THOMPSON. October 21, 1980.
