Army to recall Alamein
More than 200 soldiers from Canterbury will take part in an Infantry Dav service at Burnham Military Camp today to . commemorate the Battle of El Alamein, infantrymen from throughout the region will join soldiers of the Burnham-based 2/1 Battalion, Royal New Zealand Irtfantty Battalion, in the parade At $.30 a.m., at the memorial gates to the camp entrance. Similar services will be held by infantry units throughout New Zealand, and a parade is also being organised by the Singaporebased infantry battalion of the New Zealand Army. ’ The second Battle of El Alameta was fought from October 23 to November 4, 1942, between the British Eighth Artsy commanded by General Bernard Montgomery and the German-Italian Afrika korps of Field-Mar-shal Erwin Rommel* r
