‘Times’ to be sold or closed
NZPA-Reuter London “The Times,” of London, and its sister newspaper, the “Sunday Times,” are up for sale and will close by March if buyers are not found, their owner announced yesterday. “The Times” is Britain’s oldest daily newspaper, founded in 1785. Mr Gordon Brunton, managing director and chairman of its owner, Thomson British Holdings, said, “The main reason behind this decision is the continuing troubled history of industrial relations which goes back many years.” The board of directors had decided it could no longer justify the financial burden involved.
