Plunge off wharf
PA Tauranga’ Two Mount Maunganui people escaped serious injury when their car plunged off the main wharf at Mount Mau-? nganui. The Bay of Plenty Harbour Board said that the car was travelling along the wharf about 8 a.m. on Sunday when it struck the hardwood kerb at the end of the No. 1 berth.The driver, Paula Werohia, and a passenger, Victor Lloyd, were thrown through the windscreen and landed in the sea.
They swam to shore arid were met by an ambulance which took them to ranga.Miss Werohia suffered a broken ankle and Mr Lloyd was treated and discharged. The car, a small stationwaggon, landed on rocks in shallow water. The Mount Maunganui police said a diver checked that there were no other occu« pants in the car and then fixed a cable to> the vehicle, which was winched out of the harbour about an hour later.
