Riccarton colts for Gore Guineas Trial

Special correspondent Invercargill Magellan and The Chairman, rivals in the $lO,OOO Gore Guineas Trial on Saturday, completed their semifinal trial in a quiet session at Invercargill yesterday morning. Magellan cantered over two rounds and ran in from the 600 m in 43.8 s on the third round. The Adios II colt was keen to quicken down the straight, completing his closing 400 m in 28.85, under a hold. The trestles were five metres out on a dead course proper. The Chairman ran 1000 m in imin 6s the closing 800 m in 53.25. It was not known yesterday whether the Showoff II colt would remain South for the Gore feature or return for the

Canterbury Stakes at Rangiora next Monday.

Sugar Time and Hi Roona, stablemates in Maurice Thornley’s Riccarton team, have been left in the care of Ray Pankhurst. Sugar Time contests the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Gore on Saturday, while Hi Roona could contest the open sprint on Monday. Sugar Time was not exerting herself at the end of 800 m in 545. the closing 600 m in 40s. She ran an improved race for fifth last Saturday.
