West Ward meeting
More than 70 people heard the Mayor of Christchurch ? (Mr Hamish Hay) give one of the ..final speeches of his campaign supported by two of his fellow Citizens’ Association candidates in the West Ward last evening. Mr Hay pledged to encourage industrial expansion in Christchurch to create more job . opportunities.
He again emphasised the need.for extensions to the runway at Christchurch Air-
port as a means of revitalising the city. •'He said /Citizens’ candidates were - -determined to have dumping at the Bexley tip finished ..by 1983. Cr Helen Garrett criticised the ward system of voting as it “disenfranchised the extra votes” she had received in the last election, gMr Ml J. Glubb said the rating system was unfair to city commercial interests and, consequently, there-was an exodus to other areas in Christchurch. - ;; ‘
