Petrol margin increase?

PA Invercargill Service station proprietors will seek an increase in the petrol resellers? margin before the end of the year. This was decided by a meeting of the service station division of the Motor Trade Association yesterday. The present margin, 6.7 per cent, was based on.. a 54-day opening, said the chairman of the service station division, Mr I. W. McMeeking, after the meeting! Many, city stations were now opening seven days a week instead of five, he said. He believed . many would revert to week-day trading because the resellers* margin did not warrant the payout qf penal rates at week-ends. ; ■; • i ’Mr McMeekihg said it would be “suicide" for stations to accept credit cards as payment for petrol. A third of the total profit would go to the bank’s commission of 2.5 per cent. For security reasons, station proprietors would welcome credit cards, but not until banks accepted a lower commission or none at all, Mr McMeeking said.
