Policy disclaimer
Parliamentary reporter
The Medical Association has disclaimed, as a matter of policy, support for legalisation of prohibited drugs. An Auckland man, Mr E. Haliburton, told a _ Parliamentary select committee on Tuesday that Soviet agents were infiltrating Government Departments to increase drug use, partly by campaigning for the legalisation of prohibited drugs. He also said that the Medical Association had
noted in a circular to members the “supposed success” of the British fight against drug addiction through the legalisation of drugs. The association's general secretary, Mr R. P. Caudwell, said yesterday that the annual address of the president, Dr B. J. Bowden, reported in the association’s newsletter, had looked at legalising heroin, to reduce abuse.
“This was • a personal view, riot association policy,” Mr Caudwell said.
