Holidays legislation
PA Wellington A bill consolidating legislation covering annual holidays was introduced in Parliament yesterday. The Holidays Bill, introduced by the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) incorporates in one piece of legislation the Annual Holidays Act, 1944. the Public Holidays Act, 1955, and sections of the Factories Act, 1946.
Legislation covering the Queen’s Birthday, Anza Anzad Day, and Waitangi Day is excluded. Mr Bolger said the Government had specifically excluded them because it felt that to include them in one piece of legislation might detract from their importance. The bill was referred to the Labour and Education Select Committee.
