Airport precaution
An Air New Zealand DCIO was ordered to stop outside the crash fire base, at Christchurch Airport yesterday after smoke was seen trailing from its undercarriage during a landing. The aircraft, with 200 passengers aboard, had landed safely in strong crosswinds just before 11 a.m. on a flight from Auckland. I
I Aircraft engineers said > later that the smoke -was ■ “nothing unusual.” It was ■ the result of heavy braking • on one side to prevent the > DCIO from swinging off line when landing in strong ■ crosswinds. I Checks by maintenance , staff had revealed nothing i abnormal, said an Air. New Zealand spokesman.
