Two years jail for robbery
PA Wellington An unemployed man, Rodger Neil Upchurch, aged 22, was sentenced to two years jail for the aggravated robbery of a Nelson taxi-driver when he appeared in the High Court at Nelson yesterday.
imposing sentence, Mr Justice Jeffries said Upchurch had pleaded guilty to a serious crime. Using a knife, he had robbed a woman taxi-driver at night.
The offence was amateurish and Upchurch was certain to be apprehended. But as it was an aggravated robbery at night, a jail sentence was necessary, his Honour said.
