Prisoners caught at Darfield
Two remand prisoners who escaped from Sunnyside Hospital on Monday were recaptured by’ the Darfield police yesterday afternoon.
Henry Franklin and Andrew Vermeeren, both aged 19, were found hitch-hiking about 3 p.m. after the stolen car in which they had been travelling left the road and rolled down a bank just west of’ Darfield. They were arrested without incident, and will appear in the District Court in Christchurch this morning charged with escaping from custody. Further charges were pending, the police said. A - -widespread police search had been started after Franklin and Vermeeren we.e found to be missing from Sunnyside about 8.15 p.m. on The pair were reported to have been seen in southern Christchurch about 8 a.m. yesterday, but the police searched the area without success. ■
