P.L.O. ‘ready to make deal’
NZPA Ifrane, Morocco King Has'san of Morocco has said that the Palestine Liberation Organisation is ready to accept Israel within secure and recognised boundaries as soon as Israel agrees to similar recognition of a Palestinian State. The King, who has close and, friendly relations with the P.L.O. guerrilla leader. Yasser Arafat, made the statement during a rare news conference at his hilltop summer palace. The problem of the recognition of Israel could have been settled long ago, he said. The P.L.O. is ready to re-
cognise Israel within secure and recognised boundaries, but Israel must accept that the P.L.O. also has the right to a country within recognised boundaries. Some more moderate factions within the P.L.O. have hinted at the possibility of trading recognition of an autonomous Palestinian State. Israel had consistently refused to consider establishment of such a State, although it has agreed in principle to some form of limited autonomy for the 1.2 million Palestinians living in Israeli-occupied territories.
