N.Z. backs defence plan
PA Wellington New Zealand welcomed the proposal to hold combined defence exercises with Malaysia and Singapore under the five-Power defence arrangements, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Talboys) has said. The proposed exercises were announced by the Australian Prime Minister (Mr p raS er) The five-Power defence arrangements had been effective since 1971, Mr Taiboys said, and provided a framework for continuing defence co-operation between Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Britain “in the interests of regional security.” New Zealand believed that defence co-operation with Malaysia and Singapore was very important, Mr Taiboys said.
