Ministry ‘co-operated’
The Indonesian fugitive student, Jose Satyadharma, obtained a permit to enter Canada with the co-operation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Wellington, counsel for the student (Mr W. Rosenberg) told the District Court in Christchurch yesterday. Satyadharma, aged 35, was to have appeared in the District Court yesterday on a charge of overstaying but he left New Zealand for Canada on Saturday. Judge Frampton allowed the charge to be withdrawn. Satyadharma was order-
ed to leave New Zealand by the end of February after his case for political asylum had been rejected twice. For the last six months he had allegedly been hidden, by, a group from the University of Canterbury. The Director of limmigration (Mr L. M. Cross) said what, had happened - had been a “satisfactory" solution. Mr Cross'thought the Ministry had probably saved itself problems and a lot of taxpayers’ money. Satyadharma was spotted by a member of the public at a cinema last week and arrested. He had been remanded at large.
