Mid-Canty beats Otago
PA Dunedin A spirited and persistent Otago B side provided some anxious moments of firstclass rugby before it was beaten by Mid-Canterbury 13-3 in a representative rugby match at Carisbrook yesterday. The half-time score was 6-0.
It was Mid-Canterbury’s fourteenth win in 16 matches this season, but was far from its most convincing. Mid-Canterbury scored a try in each half but both were
scored against the run of play and the winning margin was flattering to the South Island division two winner. There was much to admire in the way the Otago B forwards and backs applied themselves. They were close to scoring many times, but Mid-Canterbury’s defence held.
Scores: Mid-Canterbury 13 (Craig Green and Alistair Morrison tries, Murray Holmes conversion and penalty goal), Otago B: 3 (Lindsay Smith penalty goal).
