P. Shand fined $50
Peter Shand, the driver of Capinsay in the Four-year-old Stakes at Methven on Saturday, was fined $5O for using his foot as a bar. False Regal, the second favourite for this event, broke after 300 m. It was found that a knee boot had become dislodged, causing his lapse. Reg Curtin was fined $3O for the late scratching of Beverley Bromac from the Marawhiti Handicap.
lan Cameron and Dick Langford were warned for attempting to jostle after about 600 m in the Staveley Handicap. In an incident about this point, Wibahe Queen broke and ran in, hitting the running rail and dislodging her driver, Cameron. Eastwood Earlybird, Highland Piper and Lloyd Hamilton met with interference. True Tuapeka, one of the favourites for the Marawhiti Handicap, was scratched a few minutes before the race was due to start. The club’s veterinary surgeon found that the drugs administered to the horse did not come within the time limits of the seven-day rule.
