Baby death inquest

PA _ Auckland A 15-month-old baby died from brain damage after accidentally falling into a bucket of napkin wash, the North Shore Coroner’s Court has heard. Dr J. Judson, of Auckland Hospital, said at the inquest that James Douglas Carran was admitted to the critical care unit on June 17 after being found unconscious and face down in a bucket of the wash.

The baby had severe respiratory failure and was given artificial ventilation for two weeks. He died on July 7. The Auckland Deputy Coroner (Mr H. M. Israel) found that James died from pneumonia complication and irreversible brain damage suffered from accidentally falling into a container of liquid.
