Dave Meredith, the snooker champion, got past Reg Barrett (Bay of- Plenty) by over a 100 points, even though Barrett had the only century break. Brian Kirkness overwhelmed Lance Napper (Otago) with, three breaks over 100 and Ken Giles won a tighter match against Brien Bennett (Taranaki). The only outsider, Milielch, had a comfortable win over Tim Bickerstaff (South Auckland). Results:— Quarter-finals: D. Meredith (Canterbury) 1071, R. Barrett <SSMj» 173, 101), L.
